Summer 2015 Universal Access Program Schedule


HIKING!

Our accessible hiking program visits various state and urban parks in Massachusetts from late spring through October. Join Stavros Outdoor Access and explore new places, meet new people and enjoy nature walks, letterboxing, scavenger hunts and theme related activities pertaining to the location. Bring your lunch. Collect DCR passport stamps at each park. Sighted guides available. Limited transportation to some western Massachusetts parks. Program cost: $3 per person, $5 for families, $25 per group. KAYAKING!

Our most popular activity takes place with on flat water with a lifeguard present at a few locations: Program cost: $5 per person at most programs, inquire when pre-registering.

D.A.R. State Forest, Goshen: Mondays: July 6- 20 and August 3. 10am - 3pm. Call Stavros Outdoor Access at 413-259-0009 to register.

D.A.R. State Forest, Goshen: Wednesdays: July 1 - August 12. 9:45am - 4:15pm. Call All Out Adventures at 413-584-2052 to register.

Regatta Point, Quinsigamond State Park, Worcester: Thursdays: July 30 - Sept 3. 9:45am-3:15pm. Call All Out Adventures at 413-584-2052 to register.

Hopkinton State Park, Hopkinton: Thursdays: July 9-30. 10am-3pm. Call Boating in Boston at 617-299-3392 to register.

Charles River, Waltham: Tuesdays and Thursdays:  Beginners: July 16, 21 and 23 from 1-3pm. Intermediate: July 28 (1-3pm and July 30 (6-8pm). River Trip ( 6 miles): Saturday, July 18 10am-3pm. Strengthen your kayak skills with explorations of the Charles River - a lovely opportunity to enjoy the winding river. Call Waypoint Adventure at 617-244-5472 to reserve your space!



CYCLING!

Join All Out Adventures and Center for Human Development's Disability Resource Program on the newly paved Norwottuck Rail Trail in Hadley. Combined adaptive bike fleets from these two organizations plus DCR's Universal Access Program offer a wide array of bikes to try out for kids and adults including handcycles, recumbents, trikes and tandems. Cost is $3 per person or use an AOA seasonal pass. Pre-registration required - call 413-584-2052. Fridays: June 19, 26, July 10, 17, 24, 31 and August 7, 14, 21, 28. 10am-3pm. 8 Railroad Street, Hadley.

Join All Out Adventures and DCR's Universal Access Program for 2 adaptive cycling dates at Artesani Park in Brighton along the Charles River (Boston). Thursdays: July 16 and September 17  from 11am-3pm. Same cost as above.

CANOEING!

Experiencing canoeing with All Out Adventures in three locations. Program cost: $5 per person. Call 413-584-2052 to register.

DAR State Forest: Tuesdays: July 7 and 14. 9:45am-4:15pm.

Hampton Ponds State Park, Westfield: Tuesdays: July 28 and August 4. 9:45am-4:15pm.

Connecticut River, Sunderland: Explore a section of the big river north or south from the   Sunderland bridge. This is a great next step for those with previous experience on flatwater with our program. Paddle around First Island north of the bridge in the morning or travel downstream in the afternoon to Hatfield. Tuesdays: July 21 and August 11.


SAILING!

Join Community Boating, Inc. on the Esplanade in Boston for daily sailing on the Charles River June 15 through September 27. Program cost is based on "pay what you can". Call 617-523-1038 to register for this very popular program.

ROWING!

Learn to row or scull with Holyoke Rows at Jones Ferry in Holyoke. Specialized rowing shells and adaptive support as needed. Enjoy exercising on the Connecticut River and/or train for competition. Sign up for an hour long experience! Free, but pre-registration is required.

Thursdays May-October. Program cost: Free. Call 413-586-8612 to register.


HORSEBACK RIDING!

Join Windrush Farm at Bradley Palmer State Park in Topsfield for a gentle ride in the forest.

This year’s riding program will be held on Monday August 17 and Tuesday August 18 from 10:00am-2:00pm. This program is free! To receive waivers, register and reserve a spot, call Gigi at (617) 626-1294 or Jesse at (978) 682-7855.

If you haven’t tried horseback riding yet, don’t miss your chance this year! Sign up early as the popular program fills up fast!

OTHER

DCR's Universal Access Program will sponsor hiking and cycling demonstrations at the ADA 25 year anniversary celebration on the Boston Common on Wednesday, July 22.

Ice Skating and BBQ! Join us at the Cronin Rink on Wednesday, August 26 from 11am - 2pm for a new twist on summer fun! Cool off on the ice with adaptive skating equipment and enjoy an outdoor barbeque! Free program! Bring your side dishes, snacks and drinks to accompany burgers and dogs provided.
